You'll see each step from your first message to the inner stitches, what decides the cost, what reviews say about recovery, and how all of it shapes your flight home, so you can pick a trip length that suits your tip and your budget.
Hello, I'm Dr. Choi Hang-seok, the Head Surgeon at TIANA Plastic Surgery in Gangnam, Seoul.
We work on noses and nothing else. The consultation on WhatsApp is in English, and I stay with you one-to-one from consultation through surgery and aftercare.
Here's the plain version: photos on WhatsApp, then consultation and surgery in Seoul, then the splint and outer stitches around day 7, and the inner stitches around day 14. You can leave after day 7 if a doctor at home will finish the last step, so plan on 7 to 14 nights.
If your dates are tight, send them on WhatsApp with a front photo and a side photo of your nose, and ask whether seven nights could work for a round tip like yours.
The Korea bulbous tip procedure steps in English, one by one
In short, these are the steps as we run them. The day 7 and day 14 timing can shift, and it's confirmed at surgery.

| When | Step | Plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Before you fly | Five photos on WhatsApp (front, 45-degree, side) | Reply in English on likely scope and how the estimate works |
| Day 1 | In-person consultation, tests if needed, design and cost confirmed, then surgery | Keep the day clear |
| Following days | Nasal gauze out, swelling check, medication, aftercare instructions | Stay close to Gangnam |
| Around day 7 | Splint and outer stitches come off | Earliest realistic flight home |
| Around day 14 | Inner stitches come out | In Seoul, or at home with a referral letter |
One date catches people out. TIANA is open 10:00 to 19:00 on weekdays and 10:00 to 16:00 on Saturdays, and closed on Sundays and public holidays. Before you buy a ticket, count forward from your surgery date and ask how the visit is handled if day 7 lands on a closed day.
For what happens inside the operation itself, I've written up the steps in the operating room separately.
Which steps can you handle in English?
The photo consultation runs on WhatsApp, and the reply comes in English. You can read more about that on our English consultation page. For the in-person visit, ask on WhatsApp how the consultation will be handled in English, so you arrive knowing the answer.

A few terms are worth knowing before you land:
- Tip cartilage: the small curved cartilages that shape the tip. Bulbous tip surgery brings them closer together.
- Splint: the rigid cover over your nose for the first days. Some people call it a cast.
- Nasal gauze: the packing inside the nose, removed at an early check.
- Outer and inner stitches: the stitches on the outside and inside of the nose, removed at different visits.
- Referral letter and surgery certificate: the documents you carry home if you leave on day 7.
Wondering which type your nose is?
Share your profile and front photos — the surgeon will tell you which procedures your nose would actually need. No cost, no obligation.
Ask which procedure fits meDoes a round tip need more than tip surgery?
That's the question that sets the length and shape of your trip. A tip can look round for different reasons, and the causes of a bulbous nose aren't all cartilage. If width in the cartilage is the main reason, bulbous tip refinement narrows a round tip by gathering that cartilage.

Example case (bulbous tip): front view before surgery (left) and 2 weeks after (right). Procedures: silicone bridge implant, tip with septal and donor rib cartilage, hump reduction, bulbous tip refinement, short-nose correction, columella and nasolabial angle adjustment. Results vary between individuals; swelling, bruising, asymmetry and infection are possible risks. Shared with the patient's consent; eyes and mouth are pixelated for privacy.
There are lighter and wider plans around it. If the tip needs only a light refinement, minimal-incision work may be enough, and it tends to recover faster. If the bridge is also low, a bridge implant plus tip support is the usual suggestion. Skin matters here too, because thick skin limits how much a tip surgery can show. A review in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Global Open discusses thick skin and low tip support as common challenges in Asian noses.
Doctor's note
I recommend only the scope your nose needs, and which procedure fits comes from your bone structure and your concern, whatever is in fashion. What I want to avoid is you arriving for a tip-only plan and finding out that the range wasn't enough. That matters even more when you've saved for one trip. A nose changes with very small differences, so I'd rather check first than guess from a single angle.
A nine-night school break, worked through
Say you teach abroad, you have nine nights off between terms, and your concern is a wide, round tip with a bridge you like. Here's how I'd reason through it.
Nine nights covers the steps up to the splint and outer stitches, with a spare night or two if you land the evening before day 1. It doesn't reach the inner stitches. So your first job, before any booking, is to find a doctor where you live who is willing to remove them with your referral letter.
I'd also think about your first week back. The splint will be off, but swelling can still be visible in front of a classroom. If that bothers you, moving the trip to the start of the break helps more than adding a night. If no doctor at home can take the stitches, a longer break around the 14-night end of the stay is the better fit.
What decides the cost of the trip?
Saving for one trip means looking at the surgery and the travel as one budget. These are the items that move it:
- Technique and scope: minimal-incision work, tip refinement with cartilage, or tip plus bridge are different operations.
- Cartilage and skin: how much cartilage is available and how thick your skin is.
- Previous surgery: a revision is planned differently from a first operation.
- Nights in Seoul: 7 nights and 14 nights are very different hotel budgets.
- Follow-up at home: a day 7 flight means an appointment with your own doctor for the inner stitches.
TIANA doesn't publish a fixed menu price for this reason. Two similar-looking noses can need very different surgery. To get your figure, ask on WhatsApp what it would cost for your case, with a photo attached.
What do reviews get right about recovery?
A few claims come up again and again in review threads. Here's how they match the medicine.
"You can fly home a week later." Often workable, and it's what the day 7 plan allows for. The part reviews skip is the inner stitches, which still need a doctor.
"Once the cast is off, you see the result." Not really. Tip swelling tends to linger longer than swelling elsewhere on the nose, and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons notes on its recovery page that the contour can keep refining for up to a year.
"Everyone's downtime is the same." It isn't, which is why I don't give a fixed period.
What can go wrong after you fly home?
Risks and side effects to know
In the first weeks you can expect swelling, bruising and a blocked feeling in the nose, which usually ease with time. Less often, people have bleeding, infection, numbness, visible scarring, breathing problems or a shape that needs revision, all covered in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons' safety page. Results vary from person to person, and the in-person exam decides whether surgery suits you.
Generally, hold off if you have an infection or skin inflammation around the nose, are pregnant, have an uncontrolled medical condition, or can't stop smoking around surgery. Mention any earlier nose surgery, even a small one.
If something feels wrong at home, don't wait for your next message to be answered. See a local doctor for fever, spreading redness, worsening pain or discharge, and take your surgery certificate along. Heavy bleeding, chest pain or shortness of breath need emergency care. The US CDC's medical tourism page also suggests arranging follow-up care at home before you travel and carrying your records.
To plan for this now, message us on WhatsApp with the city you live in and the date you'd have to be back, and ask what your doctor at home should be told about the inner stitches.

What to send before you book a flight
The Korea bulbous tip procedure steps in English start with one message. Send five photos on WhatsApp (front, 45-degree and side), then ask whether your tip alone looks like the scope to plan for. The reply in English explains which procedure your nose would likely need and how the estimate is worked out. You can ask questions first, because a deposit is only discussed once you decide to book surgery. When you come to Seoul, I'll examine your nose with 3D-CT and recommend the plan that fits your face.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1Is surgery on the same day as the consultation?
The first visit covers the in-person consultation and any tests needed. Design and cost are confirmed, then surgery follows. Ask on WhatsApp how this lines up with your arrival time.
Q2Can I leave Korea on day 7?
Yes, that's the shortest plan, with at least 7 nights in Seoul. You get a referral letter and surgery certificate. The timing can shift and is confirmed at surgery.
Q3Do I have to come back to Seoul for the inner stitches?
Not if you've left on the day 7 plan and have a doctor at home to take them out with your referral letter. Arrange that doctor before you travel.
Q4Can tip surgery be done without an implant?
Yes. TIANA offers tip surgery without an implant. Whether it suits you comes down to your cartilage and skin, which I check during examination.
Q5Is there a Sunday appointment if my dates are tight?
TIANA is closed on Sundays and public holidays. Weekday hours are 10:00 to 19:00, and Saturday hours are 10:00 to 16:00.
Thank you for reading to the end.
